Aqra, simply means Read. Being the first word of the Islamic endless message, the Holy Quran, means that it carries much more meaning other than the direct order of reading. It means to educate oneself, to enlighten others, but most importantly to end ignorance and spread knowledge.
This body of work contains the elements of both languages Arabic and Braille. The first and last letters (Alef/A) are written in the Arabic magnificent characters and the middle two letters (q and r) are written in Braille. Braille is a tactile writing system used by people who are blind and low vision. In this sense, the metaphorical meaning of this work is to invite and encourage people, whatsoever their languages, to read and spread the knowledge.
This work aims to remind the viewers to use their tools of learning in the modern digital age against ignorance.
